A federal judge has rejected for a second time a request by an alleged “patent troll” company to have its case moved out of state court, Vermont Attorney General Bill Sorrell said.
Vermont filed a consumer protection lawsuit against MPHJ Technology Investments in 2013. The attorney general alleges the company sent letters to Vermont businesses that “threatened lawsuits unless recipients promptly agreed to pay licensing fees for alleged patent infringement relating to scanning and emailing documents.”
MPHJ claims to own a patent on the process of scanning documents and attaching them to email, the AG said in a news release.
Sorrell said he will continue to seek remedy in state court. MPHJ sought to have the case heard in federal court.
