Marijuana legalization and the FairPoint strike are the topics of VTDigger’s second tweetchat from noon to a p.m. Tuesday. Everyone is invited to share their thoughts by using the hashtag #VTDchat.

As with our first chat, we will summarize your thoughts and post them on our website following the event.

The Marijuana Policy Project, which has pressed for the legal use of recreational and medicinal marijuana around the country, lobbied the state last year to decriminalize the possession small amounts of marijuana. Now the group anticipates a “robust debate” with the national anti-legalization group Smart Approaches to Marijuana, which is opposing full legalization, in part because of public health and safety concerns.

Share your thoughts on the issue during our #VTDchat: should the drug be legalized in Vermont? How should Vermont tax it? How should this revenue be used? What do you think of the RAND economic analysis on legalization, which is due due in January?

We will also discuss the five-week long FairPoint workers’ strike. The unions representing the telecommunications workers and FairPoint officials say there is a wide gap that needs to be closed before a contract is reached. The chief disagreements include health care and pension benefits.

Should the unions accept cuts to employee benefits? Should the company pay more for their employees? Has your service been affected by the strike?
