The developer of a proposed 150-mile high-voltage transmission line through Vermont said Monday it will host six public meetings in communities affected by the project.

TDI New England, a subsidiary of the financial services firm Blackstone Group, plans to build a privately funded “merchant” transmission line to bring Canadian hydropower to southern New England energy markets. The project needs state and federal approval.

The project would pass beneath Lake Champlain to Benson and then be buried underground along existing state right-of-ways to a proposed converter station in Ludlow, the company said.

The company is one of several developers proposing transmission line projects through northern New England states.

The meetings are scheduled as follows:

• 7-9 p.m., Aug. 19: Ludlow Town Hall, 37 Depot Street, Ludlow.
• 6-8 p.m., Aug. 21: Mount Holly Town Offices, 50 School St, Mount Holly.
• 7-9 p.m., Aug. 27: Castleton Community Center, 2108 Main St., Castleton.
• 6-8 p.m. Aug. 28: Alburgh Town Offices, 1 North Main Street, Alburgh.
• 6-8 p.m., Sept. 2: Clarendon Community Center, Moulton Ave/Grange Hall Road, Clarendon.
• 6-8 p.m., Sept. 4: Benson Community Hall, 2724 Stage Road, Benson.
