Four of six Vermont Air National Guard F-16s damaged by a recent storm will be back in the sky in two to three weeks, Guard officials said Thursday.
Strong winds from thunderstorms passing through northern Vermont on July 8 caused hangar doors at the Air Guard’s facility at Burlington International Airport to collapse inward, damaging six fighters with the 158th Fighter Wing, officials said.
A team from Hill Air Force Base in Utah examined the damage, but the results of that inspection were not made available.
Guard officials said no estimate of the cost of the repairs would be released until all of the damage had been assessed. Structural damage to the hangar is still being evaluated, Guard officials said.
Repairs to the other two fighters would take longer because of needed parts, the Guard said.
