The Vermont State Police have concluded an investigation into the May 31 death of St. Johnsbury 22-month-old Mason Keithan, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
Keithan died of natural causes as the result of bronchial asthma, a preexisting condition, according to the state medical examiner. Results of a toxicology test showed nothing unusual, police said.
Police do not anticipate taking further action, according to a news release.
Police last week said they were waiting to see the final autopsy report from the state medical examiner.
Masonโs death was the third in three months of toddlers whose parents had connections to the Department for Children and Families.
Mason was not in DCF custody when he died, although his mother, Alicia Mitchell, said he had been in the past. Mitchell said people unfairly linked her case to those of the other two toddlers, whose deaths were ruled homicides.
