Changes to a roster of state fees were approved by the House Ways & Means Committee on Friday afternoon.

New revenues from the fee bill, as passed by the committee, would generate less than $1 million per year.

The legislation introduces a new fee to store firearms: $4 per week could be charged to store weapons or ammunition surrendered in connection with cases of domestic abuse. A retrieval fee of up to $25 also could be charged.

If passed, biennial license renewals for funeral directors and embalmers may go up 17 percent, from $300 to $350 — much less than the 50 percent increase originally proposed by the administration. Biennial renewals for funeral and crematory establishments, however, may go up 67 percent, from $540 to $900. Charges for “removal personnel” also would increase, from $85 to $125 every two years.

Biennial renewals for chiropractors, on the other hand, would come down from $365 to $265.
