A Burlington woman admitted to filing fraudulent state tax returns in effort to obtain a total of $27,000 in refunds, the Attorney General’s Office said Friday.
Heather Forcier pleaded guilty Thursday in Washington Superior Court in Barre to two felony counts of Attempted false pretenses. According to court documents, Forcier falsified a W-2 form and submitted a fraudulent Vermont Income Tax Return in an attempt to obtain tax refunds for the years 2009 and 2010 totaling almost $27,000.00, according to a news release. The Vermont Department of Taxes detected the fraud and Forcier did not receive any funds.
Forcier was sentenced to 60 days to one year on each count, which was suspended with terms of probation to include substance abuse screening and counseling and completion of the Reparative Board process, the release said.
