VTDigger.org seeks Statehouse Reporter

VTDigger.org, Vermontโ€™s premier online source for state news, is offering a unique opportunity for a qualified candidate with at least three years’ experience in daily journalism. Candidates with data reporting and multimedia skills are preferred.

We are looking for a full-time reporter who can take our highly respected coverage of state politics and public policy issues to a new level.

The reporter joins an energetic, scrappy news team that actively questions the status quo, holds public officials accountable and reports on issues that matter to Vermonters.

Our organization

VTDigger.org is a project of the nonprofit Vermont Journalism Trust, which was founded in 2009. Our mission is to produce high quality, daily, in-depth journalism about state government, business and politics. Based in the state capital, Montpelier, we cover the Statehouse and the governorโ€™s office, and we have established statewide beats in education, energy, health care, human services, the environment and judicial issues.

VTDigger.org is a fast-paced, online-only news organization that publishes six days a week. In just four years, the website has become the go-to source of information on Vermont politics and public policy issues. Our readership is loyal: Most readers have followed us for at least a year; the majority visit the site at least once a day. Our readers are state lawmakers, government officials, lobbyists, activists, business and nonprofit leaders and a growing base of avid news consumers. We attract 95,000 unique readers a month, or about one-sixth of Vermontโ€™s population of 626,000. Our news is distributed to another 45,000 news consumers a month through our syndication service.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, creative problem-solver who is a team player with a high level of personal integrity. We are looking for someone who has a driving interest in government accountability, data and multimedia news production. The right candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented and committed to ongoing improvement. Juggling multiple deadlines simultaneously is part of the job.
