A school commissioners meeting in the Burlington High School cafeteria on Tuesday, Oct. 9, will discuss recent progress on diversity, equity and inclusion policies.

Over the weekend Superintendent Jeanne Collins reported on Front Porch Forum that board members and administrators participated in a joint training on equity with Washington Consulting on Oct. 1. About 40 teachers on the local Equity Council and Equity Team participated in a two-day workshop on the topic with the same group on Oct 2-3.

“We are well underway to take on the professional development work and harassment compliance work as outlined in the plan Diversity: Our Gift & Our Future,” Collins wrote.

On Tuesday, the board will review a policy on diversity, equity and inclusion, adopt a strategic plan that includes vision and mission statements, and hear a presentation on a pilot Equity & Inclusion Data Report. The meeting is open and will include a public comment period.
