Some Bolton Valley residents have been without water since June 28 due to at least two water main breaks.
The water system, owned by Burlington-based real estate firm Redstone, serves 160 connections and has been on the fritz since last Wednesday, when they discovered a problem.
“Wednesday of last week, we discovered we had a line break because we were losing significant amounts of water from our reservoir,” said Jeff Kenyon, maintenance coordinator for Redstone.
Since then, Kenyon says, Redstone has been working around the clock to restore the system, trucking in water in the meantime to serve the community.
“I know some people are very upset … I’m trying to make myself available to every consumer to provide them with updates and keep them in the loop,” Kenyon said.
The problem? There wasn’t just one leak. Kenyon said the Redstone team found one broken main Friday and capped it, but the system is still losing water and Kenyon’s team is searching for the leak.
Kenyon advised anyone who sees excess water to report it.
“If they see any abnormal water flow or pooling anywhere on or around their property or down the road,” Kenyon said, residents can report those to his office at 802-658-7400, extension 14.
Kenyon said searching for leaks becomes more difficult when it rains, as an excess of water can hide any that is seeping from the ground.
Redstone has hired trucks that are working around the clock to bring water into the system and Kenyon said he’s also explored the possibility of trying to get assistance from the National Guard. For now, the state is assisting in an advisory role, Kenyon said.
“I want to find any possible spot where water could escape and stop it,” he said.
