The state’s largest hospital has reached a tentative agreement with a nurses union that will most likely avert a strike in July.
According to Margaret Russell, a staffer with the Vermont Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals, members of the nurses union met with hospital administrators Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.
A sticking point between the hospital and the union has been staffing issues. The nurses union has been pushing for higher nurse-to-patient staff ratios.
Russell said she could not release details of the tentative agreement. The agreement is still subject to ratification by the union members.
Mike Noble, a spokesman for Fletcher Allen Health Care, said the hospital could not discuss the details.
“We are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement and look forward to moving on to continue to provide good high quality care to our patients,” he said.
The current contract expires July 9. The union had set a strike date for July 10.
