Gov.-elect Peter Shumlin named three commissioners — for the Department of Motor Vehicles, the Department of Taxes and the Department of Human Resources.
Rob Ide was asked to stay on in his post at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Ide served with Shumlin in the Senate, and resigned from his seat in 2003 when Douglas asked him to become the director of Energy Efficiency in the Department of Public Service. From there he moved to VTrans, where he headed the rail division. A year and a half ago, Douglas tapped Ide to run the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Mary Peterson will be the new Tax Commissioner. Peterson is a lawyer who served from 2002 to 2008 in the Vermont House of Representatives. She spent all three terms on the House Ways and Means Committee, which moves tax bills through the Legislature. She previously worked as an attorney with the Department of Public Service.
Kate Duffy is moving up from her job as a deputy secretary at the Department of Human Resources to the top slot. Duffy was an assistant attorney general for six years and took the position at DHR this year. She lives in Williston.
Ideโs salary will be $91,000; Peterson will make $85,000 and Duffy will earn $82,000.
