Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie officially launched his campaign on Sat., June 12, with a “take off” tour of six towns in eight hours. Dubie, an American Airlines pilot, visited Essex, Bennington, Berlin, Rutland, Newport and South Burlington via a Beechcraft King Air.
Hundreds of “co-pilots” — 1,000 in all, according to campaign officials — came out to cheer him on.
At the first stop, at the Champlain EXPO, Gov. Jim Douglas was on hand to campaign for Dubie, and he gave an uncharacteristically passionate speech about how he and the lieutenant governor had fought the “supermajority” of the Legislature to roll back capital gains and estate taxes.
Dubie told the crowd of 300 that rallied in Essex Junction he is working to promote job growth and economic development by lowering taxes, streamlining Vermont’s regulatory and permitting process, and fostering a collaborative environment in which state government is “a partner, not an adversary, of job creators.”
