A Fayston grandmother and her boyfriend are accused of kidnapping a 4-year-old girl early Saturday morning, according to police reports.
The child was abducted by the grandmother shortly after the Department for Children and Families attempted to take custody of the child, police say.
The couple, Dawn Hutchinson, 47, and Joel Rosenthal, 61, fled Fayston with Hutchinson’s 4-year-old granddaughter, according to police, and headed to Illinois in a silver Dodge Caravan.
The Vermont State Police issued an Amber Alert at about midnight Friday and Hutchinson and Rosenthal were apprehended in New York State two hours later on Interstate 90 in Dewitt, N.Y.
Hutchinson and Rosenthal were taken into custody. The child was placed in the custody of New York authorities.
