The state unemployment rate dropped by one-tenth of a percentage point in March, according to seasonally adjusted figures from the Vermont Department of Labor.
The revised jobless rate for March was 3.8 percent, compared to 3.9 percent in February. The national average for March was 5.5. percent.
“Vermont’s economy was bolstered by a successful 2014-2015 ski season, as evidenced by the year over year comparisons within the Leisure and Hospitality sector measurements,” Labor Commissioner Annie Noonan said in a statement. We are focusing on the new seasonal job opportunities in this sector, and in Construction and Manufacturing.”
Unemployment rates ranged from 2.9 percent in the Burlington area to 7.6 percent in the Newport-Derby area.
According to the department, Vermont’s unemployment rate has decreased or remained steady for six consecutive months.
