Second-year Vermont Technical College architecture students installed a new public space on the Rialto bridge on State Street in Montpelier. The parklet, a culmination of Vermont Tech’s Architectural Design series and partnership with Montpelier Alive, is a civic installation that will utilize a few downtown parking spaces for two consecutive summers.
The small deck will feature seating and greenery, allowing pedestrians space to pause and socialize. The 15 students involved with the parklet spent eight weeks designing, acquiring permits and pitching the project. The students are raising money through a Kickstarter campaign to cover the cost of materials and purchase plants for the parklet.
