The Washington Post’s “The Fix” is in for the nation’s top state blogs.
Columnist Chris Cillizza cited VTDigger as the best political blog in Vermont for 2013. The alphabetical listing is sorted by state. It was compiled from Washington Post reader nominations.
Cillizza says the newspaper sorted through thousands of suggestions from readers of “The Fix.”
In 2011, VTDigger shared the honor with Green Mountain Daily and Vermont Daily Briefing.
Eighteen months may be an eternity in politics, Cizzilla says, but it’s even longer than that in the erstwhile world of blogs and news sites that come and go with an alarming frequency.
Two years ago when we first made Cillizza’s list, VTDigger’s news operation was in its infancy. We had two employees and had just merged with the 501(c)3 Vermont Journalism Trust. It’s because of the board’s commitment to VTDigger and development of a stewardship nonprofit business model for our in-depth reporting and and the support of readers, businesses, foundations and our media partners that we have not only survived, but have actually grown in the last 18 months. Today we have seven employees, three of whom are reporting full-time in the Statehouse. For the first time, we are able to cover the Legislature with the kind of breadth and depth we envisioned from the beginning.
We owe a debt of gratitude to you, our readers. Thank you for making VTDigger a success.
