The latest addition to Republican Super PAC Vermonters First’s armory of ads warns Vermonters that the new health care plan will result in higher taxes and could lead to a deterioration of health services. With shots of dark hospital rooms, ominous beeping, and long waiting lines, the ad has the same theatrical quality that has come to characterize national Super PAC ads. The ad labels Vermont Democrats as “out of control,” but it doesn’t take aim at individual candidates.
The previous two ads, a combined $70,000 purchase, promoted Wendy Wilton, who is running for treasurer, and state Sen. Vince Illuzzi, who is in the race for state auditor.
Bob Stannard, founder of the Super PAC Priorities PAC, a liberal group, says the Vermonters First ad falsely accuses leaders of “keeping secrets” and “insinuates” that the governor’s single payer proposal will lead to the creation of Sarah Palin style death panels. “It is unfortunate they feel the need to use misleading information to try and scare voters into supporting a system that is broken and costing Vermonters more and more every day,” Stannard said.
