  1. I wish I knew what to say to this, but it just left me without any words that could be added to make this more poignant that it already is.

  2. As long as we’d rather fight than look for peaceful solutions…
As long as we’d rather let crooks (or their apologists) run the country…
As long as we accept the “official” explanation, rather than find the real truth…
As long as war is more profitable than peace…
As long as profit and power are more important than life…
    Ad infinitum ad nauseam…

The world will continue to be a gusher of victims and poor, and stories like Naomi’s will be very common and usually untold.

    Happy New Year.

  3. A terrific story about a terrific, obviously, woman. Thanks, Jeff.–David

  4. Thanks for printing this here. I heard only a word or two and the name Danziger the other day on VPR, and knew I would want to find out what he’d been saying. How Naomi managed I do not know, but her integrity clearly is the thing that fueled her life and work. How extraordinary it is to be able to glimpse the example she provided through living her life!

  5. Wow. You were fortunate to have known her, Jeff.

    Thanks for sharing this story.

Comment policy

VTD requires that all commenters identify themselves by first and last name. You may wonder why we don't accept anonymous comments. The short answer is: We want to keep the discourse civil.

You might rightly ask, since most online newspapers accept anonymous posts from readers, what makes VTD so special?

The long answer is: Anonymous comments don't support our mission. We are a nonprofit news organization dedicated to enhancing democracy through in-depth journalism. Our role is to foster a civil online discourse, and one very simple and effective way to do that is to require commenters to identify themselves. This isn't a new idea, of course. This is the way newspapers have treated letters to the editor since time immemorial.

As a result of our comment policy, VTD has created a safe zone for readers who want to engage in a thoughtful discussion on a range of subjects. We hope you join the conversation.
