Two local filmmakers will be premiering a short film about what it’s been like for Burlingtonians to live under the roar of the newly stationed F-35 fighter jets.
The 723-354 vote calls on the city to urge the state to ground the jets amidst reports of program-wide problems.
The grant will also be used to streamline security screenings and make the terminal building more efficient.
“Our numbers are down, but that’s OK. If they would have been at the 10,000 number, I would have been an absolute mess, knowing that many people were coming and going,” said airport director Gene Richards.
The new location will offer same-day and two-day turnaround results. But the tests won’t let travelers forgo a seven-day quarantine.
Burlington, South Burlington and Winooski leaders announced that the airport will seek federal funding for 20 monitors now that the fighter jets have arrived.
The airport has seen a ‘substantial’ cut in flights and, like many institutions during the coronavirus, hurt financially.
“Every country, for better or worse, is looking out for itself and so that means that unexpected travel restrictions are entirely possible,” an expert said of the new travel restrictions.
An FAA analysis revealed the height of the proposed hotel would interfere with the airport’s radar system.
The forecast calls for 1 to 3 inches of snow per hour during the afternoon. All flights have been canceled at the Burlington airport.
The expansion and centralization of security screening, one of several infrastructure projects planned for the airport in the next few years, will allow 200 more people per hour to be screened.
After 20 missions, the Vermont Air National Guard has fielded 14 complaints from eight people, a spokesperson said.
