Workwear that works for women

Feb 28 2022, 6:38 PM

The 1st of March marks the start of Women's History Month and a partnership between Vermont Works for Women and Tove Wear.

Vermont Works for Women and Tove Wear are excited to announce the launch of a new collaboration to support working women in Vermont. Tove Wear, a sustainable women's workwear company, based at the AO Glass factory at 416 Pine St. in Burlington, VT, will be donating educational opportunities and marketing in support of Vermont Works for Women's mission: promoting economic justice by advancing gender equity and supporting women and youth at every stage of their career journeys.

One way Vermont Works for Women advances gender equity is to provide opportunities for women to pursue well-paying careers in high demand fields. Vermont Works for Women offers training programs, mentorship and networking for women seeking to upskill or pursue a career in construction and the trades, industries that have typically been dominated by men. This emerging workforce needs workwear that is comfortable and fits their body shape and size. Women can find that in Tove Wear, which provides workwear with work-to-play versatility for women who don't want to compromise on durability, sustainability, or style.

Tove Ohlander, founder of Tove Wear and co-founder/creative director at AO Glass explains, “Our goal with Tove Wear is to drive positive change by providing women-specific garments designed for function. The styles evolved from a personal need working as a female in the glass manufacturing and design industry. We are proud that Tove Wear is part of a small but growing movement that is answering the call for functional workwear built specifically for women at work." The AO Glass factory in Burlington will be hosting VTWW's Trailblazer Program and offering internships this spring. "This is a win-win opportunity," continues Tove, "since we are actively trying to attract more women to come work at AO Glass.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Tove Wear to collaboratively support working women in Vermont,” shares Rhoni Basden, Executive Director of Vermont Works for Women. “This Women’s History Month, we’ve been reflecting that Vermont Works for Women has been shaped from its inception by gutsy women committed to the notion that women’s choices about work should be their own—and not the product of cultural stereotypes or attitudes. Their leadership and passion set in motion nearly thirty-five years of effort to advance opportunities for women and girls—and it continues to inspire and animate our work to this day. Tove Wear’s commitment to gender equity and sustainability is equally inspirational, and we look forward to growing our collaboration together!”
