For the second consecutive year, The Vermont Country Store has been ranked first in the Universal Provider category in the Best of Online Shops 2023 ratings compiled by Newsweek. The Vermont-based business, now in its third generation of ownership by the Orton family, placed ahead of household names like Amazon, WalMart, Target and Macy’s.
The Best Online Shops 2023 represent the top 1,000 online retailers in 39 categories that are selected from among 9,500 online shops, which are put through rigorous website testing and a nationwide survey of over 6,000 American online shoppers. Survey participants are asked to evaluate online shops on Trust & Security, Structure & Usability, Payment, Purchase & Delivery, Service & Communication, Technical Performance, and Likelihood of Purchase.
“We’re excited to be ranked first in the Universal Service category of Best Online Shops 2023 for the second year in a row, because it shows that we’re consistently focused on the right things – remaining true to our Vermont heritage and doing right by our customers,” said Eliot Orton, Proprietor of The Vermont Country Store.
“We set extremely high standards for our online shopping experience. Our goal is to translate the unique appeal of shopping in person at The Vermont Country Store for an online audience. It’s a huge challenge we’ve undertaken to distinguish our small company, in a highly competitive marketplace, dominated by very large companies,” said Jim Hall, President & CEO of The Vermont Country Store.
“We want our online customers to experience a virtual visit to Vermont as they browse our website, offering them a broad range of quality products for daily living, and providing them friendly, helpful and personalized service, just like we do in our two retail stores in Weston and Rockingham, Vermont.”
