BURLINGTON, Vt. – Burlington’s Fletcher Free Library will bring a wide array of programs to the library lawn and throughout the city this summer to entertain and educate all ages.
FFL visits more than 15 parks and recreation sites each week to bring books and activities to children and teens this summer. Visit fletcherfree.org/summer-challenge-outreach-schedule to find times and locations.
Family-friendly theater events include two July shows on the library lawn at 235 College Street. Very Merry Theater will perform Moana Jr. on Wednesday, July 14 from noon to 2 pm. The Vermont Suitcase Company will present Robin Hood on Friday, July 30, from noon to 2 pm.
On Wednesday, July 21, from 1 to 2 pm, the Children’s Literacy Foundation will treat the audience to a storytelling presentation and welcome each child to select two new books to own. This event on the library lawn is made possible through the CLiF Summer Readers grant, nurturing a love of reading and writing and inspiring more than 200,000 young readers in New Hampshire and Vermont.
Food For Talk Cookbook Club will enjoy Ethiopian cuisine on Sunday, July 25 at 3 pm. Eritrean guest chef Mulu Tewelde has catered events, taught cooking classes and offered pop-up dinners since moving to Vermont in 2006. Mulu will offer a tutorial in making Ethiopian salads and sauces and leads the discussion of Ethiopia: Recipes and Traditions from the Horn of Africa by Yohanis Gebreyesus and Teff Love by Kittee Berns. On the library lawn from 6 to 8 pm, on Friday, July 30, Unifying Black Families: Black Artists Showcase will feature Rajnii Eddins reading from his new book, In the Coded Language of the Mortal Tongue. He will be joined by Black artists and writers including Harmony Edosomwan, Kia’Rae Hanron, Omega Jade, Toussaint St. Negritude, Brother Cole, Ishmael Ahmed, Julio Desmont, Javan Nichols, and Cadoux Fancy.
Teens are invited to TAB, the Teen Advisory Board, on Thursday, July 22 from 2 to 3 pm on the lawn. On Monday, July 19, from 2 to 3 pm, a virtual Mythical Creatures Workshop with illustrator Corrine Roberts will guide teens and tweens in drawing imaginative creatures. Register at fletcherfree.org.
