Health Equity Focus of Day-long Conference
Team Up, Take Action: COVID Pandemic and the Public Health Action: Rebuilding Through Alliances to Promote Health Equity

BURLINGTON, VT, December 2022
The Vermont Public Health Association (VtPHA), along with Dartmouth-Hitchcock, the New Hampshire Public Health Association (NHPHA) and the Maine Public Health Association (MPHA) are co-sponsoring a conference aimed at healthcare, public health, and social services professionals and students on Friday, December 9, 2022. This is the seventh year the group has hosted this joint event of “Team Up, Take Action” which will be held virtually from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. This year’s theme is COVID Pandemic and the Public Health Action: Rebuilding Through Alliances to Promote Health Equity. The conference will highlight public health and health system partnerships, cross-sector alliances, and innovative approaches to rebuild from the COVID pandemic and improving the public’s health and promoting health equity.
“There is a real opportunity now to improve the health of people and their communities as we work to recover from the pandemic. The focus needs to be on addressing historic health inequities as we work to rebuild health delivery systems”, says Ken Allen, Board President of the VtPHA and TUTA Planning Committee Member. “This work has begun in earnest throughout Northern New England and our conference will highlight local efforts that are making a difference.”
In addition to learning of the work being done in Northern New England, the keynote speakers will present on regional and national efforts. Betsy Rosenfeld, JD, Region 1 Health Administrator of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will present on Taking up the Equity Lessons of COVID: Let's Imagine a New Public Health World Together. This talk will review some of the key equity lessons of COVID-19, share how the New England federal family is working to address them, and suggest creative ways to catalyze partnerships across New England to imagine a more equitable future together. Anne Sosin of the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center, Dartmouth College, will present Driving Dirt Road Equity: Reimagining Rural Health and the challenge of creating equitable clinical and public health systems in rural New England.
