Burlington police said an unidentified gunman discharged three rounds in City Hall Park Wednesday night after confronting another man.

It appears that nobody was struck with a bullet, according to police, who are investigating. They have not located the suspect or the victim.

The gunfire was reported at about 7:14 p.m., according to a Burlington police press release. Investigators believe the suspect parked a white truck on College Street and approached the victim inside the park. They exchanged words before the gunman fired, police said.

Both men fled, according to police. Investigators found “ballistics evidence of a firearms discharge” at the scene, they said.

The episode marks the 24th time this year that a gun was fired in the city in a criminal manner, according to police, and the second time shots were fired in City Hall Park this month. One man died in a shooting there Sept. 4; two others have pleaded not guilty in his death.
