Rutland Regional Medical Center will ban nearly all visitors beginning next week, according to a press release Monday.
Anyone who is not designated an “essential support person” will not be allowed in the hospital or in the medical center’s clinic. Those exceptions will be allowed for pediatric patients, labor and delivery patients and patients near the end of life. Children under the age of 18 will only be allowed in exceptional circumstances.
The new policy is in response to the flu season and Covid-19, the release said.
“Our number one priority is to keep our patients and staff safe and restricting access to the hospital and clinics is a proven way to do this,” said Claudio Fort, president and CEO of Rutland Regional. “We recognize the difficulty this creates but we ask for the community’s support and patience. We all have to work together to protect our patients in the wake of this unprecedented pandemic.”
