The Montpelier-Roxbury School District reported two cases of Covid-19 at Union Elementary School in Montpelier.
The Vermont Health Department does not believe the elementary school cases are related to the recent cluster of cases connected to an area youth and adult hockey league, according to agency spokesperson Ben Truman.
The two cases are isolated within one “pod” at the elementary school, Superintendent Libby Bonesteel said in a letter to the community Thursday. Pods refer to cohorts of students and staff who stay together and do not mix with others within the school. Everyone in the pod has been notified by Principal Ryan Heraty and will be called by contact tracers within the next 24 hours, Bonesteel added.
The Department of Health has not recommended the school close, but the superintendent said the pod would work remotely for the remainder of the week.
At least five other new cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Vermont public schools since Sunday.
