City of Burlington will settle police use-of-force lawsuit

The city council approved the settlement during a special meeting on Tuesday. Three brothers brought legal action against the city related to an excessive force incident involving Officer Jason Bellavance in 2018. The settlement still needs to be approved by a federal judge.

2nd suspect in Burlington apartment shooting arrested

Fortune Smith, 22, was arrested in North Carolina in connection with a downtown Burlington shooting on April 29, police said. The suspect’s brother, Tyrin Smith, was arrested and charged last week.


CityPlace tweaks plans to remove restaurant space, add housing
