The state government has an online form for people to report ice-outs — that is, when there’s no longer ice from shore to shore on a body of water. Private groups have put money on the line.

Helvi Abatiell Furlan was pronounced dead early Sunday morning after being injured in a structure fire, according to the Vermont State Police. Two children, aged 11 and 17, along with a dog, were uninjured.


Suspect arrested in Rutland City homicide case

State police said 18-year-old Trayvon Kisling of Staten Island, New York, was taken into custody Wednesday at a Brandon gas station. He faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated domestic assault and obstruction of justice in the November shooting.


Winter storm expected to bring heavy snowfall and possible utility outages to southern Vermont

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from 8 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Wednesday for the southern portion of the state. A winter weather advisory is in effect for many central towns.


Federal snow geese hunt will allow Vermonters to bag up to 15 birds a day

The Vermont snow goose hunting season runs from March 11 through April 23, coinciding with the birds’ migration toward the St. Lawrence River Valley.


Covid levels remain ‘low’ in Vermont as the state stops reporting PCR testing data

Issues with mail delays and understaffing have been especially prevalent in Chittenden and Windham Counties. The town of Hinesburg has experienced a backlog of over 1,000 packages, according to letters from the delegation.


At public meeting on proposed wake boat regulations, many call for stricter limits

A proposed rule drafted by the state Department of Environmental Conservation would require that wake sports take place at least 500 feet from shore and on bodies of water that have an area of at least 50 acres and are 20 feet deep.
