Vito Caselnova, 25, of Glens Falls, New York, who worked for the Rutland County Sheriff’s Department at the time of the incident last fall, pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Tuesday.

Giancarlo DiGenova pleaded not guilty Thursday to 16 misdemeanors and four felony charges. The allegations against him include stealing property worth more than $40,000 from an evidence storage area, including a Rolex watch, which he reportedly said he then gave to his son.

Romeo Reome III, 53, of Brattleboro, was found unresponsive in his cell Wednesday morning, following his treatment at Springfield Hospital. The cause of Reome’s death remains under investigation.

State police have not released the name of the 27-year-old who died pending notification of relatives. The man’s body was taken to the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death.

Taylor Ruffin Herrington pleaded guilty to using a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking crime and conspiracy to distribute heroin and crack cocaine. Prosecutors said he fired six shots into the home of Michael Haines “in a dispute over 60-70 bundles of heroin.”
