An apparent shooting killed one man and severely injured another on Sunday, June 4, in the Addison County town of Leicester. Vermont State Police are investigating.

A 911 call at about 10 p.m on Sunday reported a disturbance near Route 7, police say. Officers found two victims by the road, one of whom had died before police arrived.

Officers say the other victim, who had severe injuries, was taken to Porter Medical Center in Middlebury and later transferred by helicopter to UVM Medical Center in Burlington for further care.

Police say the identities of those who were shot will be released after further investigation and once the victims’ relatives have been notified.

While no one has been taken into custody in connection with the incident, police say the shooting appears to have been a targeted instance, posing no further threat.

Police are awaiting results of an autopsy that will determine the cause and manner of the dead man’s demise. In the meantime, the Vermont State Police major crime unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Field Force Division, Victim Services Unit and a crime scene search team are investigating.

As part of the investigation, police are considering a report they received of a black Nissan sedan seen leaving the crime scene.
