Two people died in a house fire early Tuesday morning in Fair Haven, according to Fair Haven Police.
The identities of the persons killed have not been released. Their remains were taken to the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies to determine cause of death and to confirm their identities, according to a press release issued Tuesday afternoon from Fair Haven police.
The blaze was reported as a structure fire shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday, with Fair Haven police, fire and emergency medical personnel responding to the scene, the release stated. Firefighters from surrounding communities were called in to help contain the fire.
“Officials learned the home occupants may have been inside the residence,” the press release stated. “A search resulted in recovering the remains of two people from the home.”
Vermont State Police are assisting with the investigation of what caused the fire.
No other information was immediately available Tuesday.
