A visitation will be held 2-4pm and 6-8pm Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. Condolences to John’s family may expressed in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com . In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice. A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.


John M. Bruno, 80 died Sunday March 26, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

John was born May 5, 1942 in Torrington, CT, a son of John and Helen (Pormbjak) Bruno. He graduated from Torrington High School in 1960. John studied at the University of Connecticut first obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1964 and later a Master of Science in 1968. John was married to Barbara Kissh on September 5, 1964 in Harwinton, CT.  In 1972 they moved to Brownsville, VT where John started Bruno Associates, an engineering, surveying and consulting business in Woodstock, VT. John retired in 2006 and they moved to a 1870’s farm house in South Charlestown, NH on the Connecticut River. They later moved to their current home in Hartland to be closer to their son Mark.

John was a member of the West Windsor Zoning Board for 22 years. He also served on the Charlestown, New Hampshire Planning Board and the Hartland Planning Commission.

John enjoyed working with wood, caving birds and wood turning. Most of all he enjoyed time with family and friends, summer on Goose Pond and a good laugh.

John is predeceased by a son Robert Bruno and a sister Barbara Ohotnicky.

He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 58 years of Hartland, a son Mark Bruno, his wife Billie Jean of Hartland and granddaughter Molly Bruno and her partner Oliver Levin of Malden, MA.
