A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 1:00pm at the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., in Burlington. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Terrance Edward Dengler of So. Burlington, VT died on March 16, 2023 at home following a short illness. He was born on November 3, 1942 in Dunkirk, NY the son of Edward and Josephine (Wyszynski) Dengler. He was a 1960 graduate of Dunkirk High School and completed his undergraduate degree at SUNY Fredonia in 1965. He earned a Ph.D. in Physics from UVM in 1970.
On June 29, 1968, Terry married Barbara Ellen Williams at her parents’ home in Windsor, Vermont. Their love story lasted almost 50 years. Following her death on December 31, 2017, he was blessed with a second loving marriage to Susanne Fletcher on November 4, 2019.
Terry taught science at Rice Memorial High School in So. Burlington for 36 years. His students affectionately referred to him as “Doc” – a name that followed him even after his retirement in 2006.
He was an avid reader and a lifelong collector and builder of model trains. He never missed an episode of Jeopardy if he could help it. He appreciated a good political discussion, a dry martini and anything chocolate. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping – especially with his two sons.
Terry is survived by his wife, Susanne; his sons Matthew (Robbin) Dengler of Marstons Mills, MA, and Hugh (Tracey) of Burlington, VT, and a sister Geraldine Roach of Lancaster, NY, and a brother John (Diane) Dengler of Gray, TN. He is also survived by his two granddaughters Sophia and Cassidy Dengler of Burlington, VT; three sisters-in law Janet Abbott (Greg) of Chillicothe, OH, Abbie Rabideau of Brattleboro, VT, and Carol Williams of Windsor, VT as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Terry was predeceased by his parents, his wife Barbara and his brothers-in-law Jack Roach and Hugh Williams.
