A person was struck by a northbound Amtrak train Friday night in Waterbury, according to the Vermont State Police. The victim was found deceased near the Waterbury-Stowe Amtrak station. 

In a press release issued early Saturday morning, police said they received a report of a person struck by a passenger train shortly before 8 p.m. Friday. No passengers or train employees were injured.

Vermont State Police later identified the victim as Ariel Cunningham, 26, of Waterbury, Connecticut. According to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the neck and head, and the manner of death was determined to be suicide.
