Vermont’s Covid-19 community levels were “low” in the past week, the state Department of Health reported Wednesday.

Hospital admissions remained mostly steady between this week and the week before, according to the department. As of Wednesday, 42 people were hospitalized with Covid, including three in intensive care.

Case counts were also similar. The department reported 495 Covid cases in the past week, compared to 509 the week before. Case data is mainly based on PCR testing and does not include at-home antigen tests.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 12 of Vermont’s 14 counties had “low” Covid levels, while two — Rutland and Bennington counties — had “medium” levels, up from just Bennington County last week.

Nine additional people have died from Covid, including two in January, bringing that month’s total up to 24, according to the health department. Eight deaths have been reported so far in February. In total, 910 people have died of Covid since the pandemic began three years ago next month.
