Will Anderson is running for the Progressives in the South District City Council race on Town Meeting Day, following a virtual caucus on Thursday night.

Burlington Progressives co-chair Carter Neubieser said on Thursday that the vote was 6-4 in favor of Anderson, who earlier this month tied, 5-5, with FaRied Munarsyah in the Progressives’ caucus on Jan. 10. Thursday’s virtual caucus was held to settle the tie vote in the South District.

Anderson is set to face Joan Shannon, the Democratic incumbent.

With Anderson’s victory, the Progressives have finalized their Town Meeting Day slate.

In the Central District, they nominated Melo Grant who will run against Democrat Avery Muzikar.

Progressive Jake Schumann earned the party’s nomination in the East District earlier this month. On the Democratic side, Councilor Maea Brandt, D-East District, announced this week that she will not run again, following a recent special election win on Dec. 6. Instead, Tim Doherty will run as a Democrat against Schumann.

The Progressives are not running a candidate in the North District, where Mark Barlow, I-North District, is unopposed.

A fifth council election will take place on Town Meeting Day to fill the vacant Ward 8 seat following the resignation of Ali House last fall. Progressive Rhone Allison, a third-year University of Vermont student, will face Hannah King, who is running for the Democrats.
