Since its inception 13 years ago, this news organization has been dedicated to digging into the most challenging problems facing our state — and digging up the facts Vermonters need in order to make informed decisions.
In recent months, we’ve rededicated ourselves to that mission by investing more resources in investigative reporting and explanatory journalism.
If you value this kind of work, please join us during this final week of our annual member drive. Your gift will be doubled (up to $1,000) and you’ll be helping us send 40,000 meals to the Vermont Foodbank.
While our reporters still seek to cover the day-to-day news on their beats, we’ve made clear that we want them to step back whenever possible to dig deeper and deliver more powerful journalism. And we’ve set new expectations to ensure that all of our reporters are seeking out public records to inform their work.
These changes have contributed to a number of important stories we’ve recently published. We documented a chronic infrastructure problem in Montpelier; we questioned why staff at a Bennington elementary school keep calling the police; we revealed that some Vermont landlords are illegally charging for rental applications; and we described the fear one Colchester resident felt over his possible deportation to Uganda.
These stories take time and resources to report and write — but they’re worth it. We need your help to make them possible. Can you contribute to VTDigger to ensure that we have what we need to publish more stories like these in 2023?
