A 66-year-old man was shot and killed at a house in Eden on Thursday night, according to Vermont State Police.

Troopers received a report of shots fired at 187 Griggs Road at around 10:20 p.m., state police said. When officers arrived, they found a man dead at the scene.

At a press briefing Friday afternoon at the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department in Hyde Park, State Police Maj. Dan Trudeau said the shooting took place at the Peatman residence, but he did not release the victim’s name.

State police said other people involved in the shooting fled the scene, and no one was in custody as of Friday afternoon. Trudeau said he had no additional information to offer about possible suspects or their whereabouts.

The shooting appears to be targeted and officials do not believe there is a broader threat to public safety, according to state police.

Griggs Road is a short, dead-end road with few homes in the Eden Mills area, not far from the shore of Lake Eden.
