Lord Snowdemort, Snowbe Bryant and many more newly named snow plows will join the 163 previously named plows on the roads in Vermont’s upcoming blizzards.
Imaginative students once again came to the aid of the Agency of Transportation in the second year of its popular “Name a Plow Program” to help devise nicknames for plows before they ventured out onto cold Vermont roads.
In a tweet in late October that announced this year’s program, VTrans said that 87 plows needed names. After the program’s completion, the agency listed 71 plows with new monikers. Over 70 schools participated, the agency said.
Another tweet on Friday announced that “Plow Day” had been celebrated the day prior, when all of the named plows visited “schools throughout the state” and gave “students a chance to see their newly named plow trucks up close.”
All schools were allowed to participate in the program, but only one name could be awarded from each school, according to the agency’s rules. Those that already participated in 2021 could not participate in 2022.
The newly named plows had a lot to live up to after the first year’s display of clever nicknames, but the plows joining the named crew did not disappoint, including Mount Mansfield Union High School’s “Fast and Flurrious,” Williamstown Middle High School’s “The Final Plowdown” and Mary Hogan Elementary School’s “Super Plow Snow Pants.”
