Burlington Police are investigating the death early Sunday morning of a 32-year-old man in City Hall Park, according to a press release.

In a mid-morning press release on Sunday, Acting Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad said it “appears that the suspect directly and specifically targeted the victim,” who was shot in the head.

The shooting occurred at about 12:42 a.m. on Sunday. The victim was later identified as Bryan C. Rogers II, of Philadelphia.

“The suspect has not yet been identified or apprehended. Detectives have begun evidence collection,” according to police.

“The Burlington Police Department received extraordinary assistance with regard to the initial response from troopers of the Vermont State Police, and with regard to scene control from officers of the University of Vermont Police Department and South Burlington Police Department,” Murad said in the release.

This is the third homicide of the year in Burlington and the 12th incident in which a bullet struck a person. The investigation is ongoing and all information is preliminary, according to police.
