With the state’s August 9 primary election right around the corner, the candidates vying for Vermont’s sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives are set to face off in person for the latest event in the 2022 Digger Debate Series.

VTDigger will host back-to-back Democratic and Republican primary debates on June 28 at 6 p.m. at the Double E Performance Center in Essex. The event will also be livestreamed at VTDigger.org thanks to Town Meeting TV

Seven candidates vying to succeed U.S. Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., will gather on the debate stage. The Democratic debate will feature Senate President Pro Tempore Becca Balint, D-Vt., Sianay Chase Clifford, Lt. Gov. Molly Gray and Dr. Louis Meyers. The Republican debate will feature Liam Madden, Ericka Redic and Anya Tynio.

Senior editor Mike Dougherty and political reporter Lola Duffort are set to moderate the event and will pose questions from readers. Submit your questions for the candidates below.

The Digger Debate Series has so far included events focused on Vermont’s races for lieutenant governor, secretary of state and U.S. House. VTDigger will host a primary debate featuring candidates for attorney general on July 13 at 6 p.m. Several general election debates will take place this fall. All attendees are required to be up to date on Covid-19 vaccinations. In accordance with federal guidelines, masks will be required if local Covid-19 levels are rated “high” by the CDC at the time of the event.
