John Walters is joining VTDigger’s staff as a political columnist. Walters will analyze the legislative session and contribute to “Final Reading,” a comprehensive insider’s guide to the Statehouse that is distributed every evening Tuesday through Friday. (You can sign up for Final Reading, here.)
Walters has covered Vermont politics since 2012, as an independent blogger and as columnist for Seven Days.
Walters has lived in East Montpelier since 2006. Before that, he was a news anchor and reporter for New Hampshire Public Radio and Michigan Radio. At NHPR, he was host of the award-winning daily interview show, “The Front Porch.” He is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
“I’m excited to hang out my shingle at VTDigger,” Walters said. “It’s become the leading source of news about state policy and politics, and a model for 21st century journalism. I look forward to sharing my insights with the VTDigger community.”
Walters joins a team of VTDigger reporters in the Statehouse, including longtime political columnist Jon Margolis, political reporters Xander Landen, Kit Norton and Grace Elletson, along with beat reporters Elizabeth Gribkoff, Anne Wallace Allen and Lola Duffort.
VTDigger editor Anne Galloway said readers have long appreciated Walters’ edgy wit and sardonic perspective on legislative sausage-making.
