Burlington, VT — The Fletcher Free Library has appointed Mona Tolba, Malimu Chol Dhoor and Hemant T. Ghising to the Library Commission. The Library Commission has a total of ten members, including four library commissioners, four trustees, one staff commissioner and one mayoral designee charged with reviewing Library policies and representing and promoting Library interests.
Ghising earned his Master’s in Public Administration and his Master’s in Sociology from Tribhuvan University in Nepal, and received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Vermont in August. Ghising volunteers as an instructor for the Vermont Bhutanese Association and has served in the Mayor’s Core Committee on Diversity and Equity in Burlington.
Tolba holds two PhD’s in Food Microbiology and Veterinary Medicine, the latter she earned from Cairo University in Egypt, where she taught for more than 10 years. Tolba is currently a researcher at UVM and an active member of the Arabic Community in Vermont. She has led Arabic language courses at both the Islamic Society of Vermont, where she has been a teacher for more than six years, and the Fletcher Free Library.
Dhoor is a graduate of the University of Vermont where he studied economics and was a McNair Scholar. He is also the President of the Sudanese (Sudan and South Sudan) Community Living in Vermont (SCIVT) and Director of the Sudanese Foundation of Vermont.
He works as a patient services representative at the Community Health Centers of Burlington and the programs and community outreach manager at Clemmons Family Farm. Dhoor was appointed by the Mayor of Burlington to serve on the Community Development Block Grant. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Spectrum Youth and Family Services.
