The Samara Fund at the Vermont Community Foundation is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a benefit on Friday, October 27 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Burlington City Arts. The Samara Fund is the leading source of permanent support dedicated to nurturing the vitality, success, and well-being of Vermont’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and organizations through dynamic and sustained philanthropy. Tickets are $50 per person and include hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and a performance.

Syndicated cartoonist Alison Bechdel is one of the evening’s special guests. She is the author of the graphic memoir Fun Home – Time Magazine’s Best Book of 2006 – that was adapted into a musical by the playwright Lisa Kron and the composer Jeanine Tesori and won five Tony Awards in 2015, including Best Musical.

Bechdel will be joined by Beth Malone who originated the role of Alison Bechdel in the musical Fun Home and took it from workshops all the way to Broadway. Malone was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance, which was lauded by one critic as “the glue that holds the show together.” Malone will sing songs from Fun Home at the Samara benefit event.

This event is sponsored by Physician’s Computer Company (PCC), and proceeds benefit the Samara Fund.
