The Senate confirmed the governor’s appointment of Rebecca Holcombe to remain secretary of education Thursday.
Sen. Philip Baruth, D/P-Chittenden, chair of the Senate Committee on Education, said her appointment was the best decision Gov. Phil Scott could have made. “I think she is one of the most intelligent and adept at policy in her role that I have ever seen. I give her my own highest recommendation,” Baruth said.
The Education Committee voted 6-0 in favor of Holcombe’s appointment. The full Senate confirmed her in a voice vote.
Holcombe served as secretary since 2014 under former Gov. Peter Shumlin. She has taught every grade in school, including higher education, and was a principal at Fairlee School. During her time at Fairlee, Holcombe helped create the Rivendell Interstate School District.
