Vermont State Legislature and Governor Shumlin Proclaim 2013 the “Year of the Veterinarian”

This year marks the 150th anniversary of organized veterinary medicine in the United States and the founding of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

In recognition of these many roles that veterinarians fill, Representative and Vermont Veterinary Medical Association Honorary Member Dr. John Bartholomew arranged for a legislative resolution to congratulate the AVMA on its 150th anniversary and for 2013 to be officially proclaimed the “Year of the Veterinarian” in the legislature at the Vermont Statehouse on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin also signed a proclamation in honor of this anniversary.

The Vermont Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA), founded in 1898, is a professional organization of 340 veterinarians dedicated to compassionate animal care and quality medicine. For more information, visit or call (802) 878-6888.
