Cassandra Gekas has a backup plan if she doesn’t win the bid for lieutenant governor. Paul Heintz of Seven Days reported yesterday that the Vermont State Employees Association (VSEA), a union representing 5,200 state workers, has reserved a legislative coordinator position for Gekas until they know the Election Day outcome.

Gekas, the Progressive and Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, told Heintz she would decline the offer from VSEA if she wins the election but she said that financial constraints have forced her to explore alternatives in the event that incumbent Phil Scott comes out ahead. “I’ve done a lot of sacrificing to be on the campaign trail. I can’t afford to be jobless post-campaign. For me, this is a practical matter. And for me, I’m still working 100 percent on the campaign, but I had to be sure I was having some conversations,” said Gekas

VSEA, which has been a strong supporter of Gekas throughout her campaign, would not acknowledge that a formal job offer had been made, but Gekas confirmed with Heintz that the coordinator position is “sitting there until after the election.”
