What: A group of 5 Vermont anti-nuclear activists calling themselves the Green Mountain Delegation (GMD) were arrested after attempting to occupy the Entergy Nuclear headquarters in White Plains, NY Thursday morning as an act of solidarity with the hundreds of citizens taking similar nonviolent action Thursday back home in Brattleboro, Vermont. Simultaneously another small group of New England activists attempted a similar solidarity move to occupy Entergy’s corporate offices in New Orleans, Louisiana. The GMD will be arraigned for criminal trespassing charges at 2PM at the White Plains City Court in White Plains, NY.

The GMD group in White Plains delivered a 6 point list of demands focused on why the company should close its 40 year old reactor operating in southern Vermont. Entergy executive refused to meet with the group, however the group reached the twelfth floor offices of Entergy Nuclear and read their demands until police arrived and arrested all five of them.

Where: The action was carried out at 11:00AM at Entergy headquarters, 440 Hamilton Avenue, White Plains, NY.

Activists with the Green Mountain Delegation came to White Plains representing the concerns of many in Vermont as well as the communities surrounding the reactor in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. “Our struggle in Vermont is like the struggle against Entergy in Westchester County, or struggles against corporations anywhere. It is a struggle to defend our rights as people to determine our future. Entergy Nuclear refuses any accountability to the people of Vermont and our democratic process. In fact they are outright hostile,” Says Erik Gillard educator and activist of Plainfield, VT and one who was arrested.

These actions come one day after Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee’s (ENVY) state certification to operate expired March 21, 2012. Months ago federal district court judge J. Garvin Murtha ruled to overturn Vermont State law preventing ENVY from operating past March 21, 2012. However, the state still retains regulatory authority over the plant through the Public Service Board, a quasi-judicial board responsible for regulating utilities. The PSB has not granted VY a renewed Certificate of Public Good (CPG) for future operations. Based on the current CPG VY’s continued operation can only be towards decommissioning.

The Green Mountain Delegation demanded the following:
1.) Entergy cease its attack on Vermont’s democratic process and honor agreements it signed with the state of Vermont (including that it decommission immediately 3/22)
2.) ENVY begins the decommissioning of the Fukushima style Mark I BW reactor immediately.
3.) Entergy pay reparations to all communities whose land and lives have been made toxic by the uranium fuel chain
4.) Entergy pay the full costs of all legal proceedings past and present involving the state of VT.
5.) Entergy revoke all statements claiming nuclear power to be clean, carbon-free or renewable.
