Senator Tim Ashe’s statement on entering Burlington mayoral race

“I am entering the race for Mayor of Burlington because I believe I am the candidate best equipped to lead this city forward.

In past elections, I have been fortunate to earn the support of Burlington Democrats, Progressives, and Independents. This wide support, combined with my experience, values, and vision, makes me the only candidate in the Democratic caucus who can prevent city Republicans from winning City Hall.

My private sector experience here in Burlington is extensive. I have worked to attract millions of dollars in private and public funds to create safe, affordable housing for our city’s seniors, supporting critical construction jobs in Burlington when we needed them most.

I also bring experience in the public sector at all levels — I’ve been a Congressional staffer for Bernie Sanders, served three terms on the Burlington City Council, and am in my second term as a Vermont State Senator. The next mayor of Burlington faces immediate, large-scale challenges; there is no time for long learning curves.

I’m prepared for the job, and I look forward to working with the people of Burlington to protect and improve this great city.

In the days leading up to the Burlington Democratic caucus, I will be meeting caucus voters, participating in forums with other candidates, and sharing my ideas for a better Burlington.

Thank you.”

Tim Ashe
State Senator
Chittenden County
